Welcome to the City of Burbank's Municipal Elections page. The following information is intended for voters and potential candidates. Elections are now held in November of even-numbered years. The next election for Burbank residents will be the March 5, 2024, Statewide Direct Primary Election followed by the November 5, 2024, General Election.
In 2015, the State Legislature adopted and signed Senate Bill (SB) 415, and it was determined by the California Attorney General that SB 415 does apply to Charter Cities as well as General Law Cities. SB 415 required cities with voter turnout rates lower than that of statewide elections to consolidate with the State. In compliance with SB 415, the City of Burbank General Municipal Election would have to align with statewide election dates.
In June 2018, the Electors of the City of Burbank passed Measure V which moved the City of Burbank’s General Municipal Elections from February (Primary) and April (General) of odd-numbered years to coincide with the Statewide General Election in November of even-numbered years. The first consolidated General Municipal Election was held on November 3, 2020 and was conducted by the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk (County). The most recent consolidated election was conducted on November 8, 2022.
The Voting Solutions for All People (VSAP) was developed by the County in 2009 to address an aging voting system and an increasingly large and complex electorate. The project sought a collaborative approach to voting system design that put voters at the center and maximized stakeholder participation. The County’s effort to modernize our voting process through VSAP has several different components to it, such as flexible options for voting, a Ballot Marking Device, a Vote by Mail ballot and Vote Centers.
