Records Management

The Burbank City Clerk acts as a compliance officer for federal, state, and local statutes, including the Political Reform Act, the Ralph M. Brown Act, and the California Public Records Act. The City Clerk manages public inquiries and makes arrangements for access to public records.

The City of Burbank is committed to providing open and transparent access to public records created and maintained by the City, which includes timely access to requested records in accordance with the California Public Records Act.

The Records Management Division of the Burbank City Clerk's Office administers the Citywide Records Management Program (Program) for all City departments and maintains a collection of historical records. In 1972, the Program was established to provide an organized structure for the oversight of the retention, preservation, destruction, and disposition of City records.

The goal of the Records Center allows the City to conduct its business by ensuring that important records are organized and maintained in a manner that allows for the effective storage, identification, and retrieval of records.

This system includes the transfer of inactive records into the Records Center; scanning and indexing of records to preserve records with long-term, permanent or historical value, and to protect records vital to the City in the event of a disaster; and disposing of records that have met their legal retention requirements.

The Division also provides timely responses to public records requests in accordance with the California Public Records Act.
